#SCAatHome Highlights

Hello, all #SCAatHome!

Wow is all we can say! Everyone is sharing, teaching and showing just what the SCA is all about!  This past week has lots to offer. Have a look!

From the Kingdom of Atlantia…

Greetings Atlantia!

I like a lot of you are finding it harder and harder to keep up with your chosen family, during this difficult time. With that in mind, Their Royal Highness, have created an opportunity that allows us to leverage our knowledge, talents, and experiences together in one location. Be engaged and most of all give ourselves options to continue to be active within the boundaries of our current circumstances.

Welcome to Virtual Atlantia.

Below is the link to the first version of their vision: an online calendar that will house links to classes, bardic and other virtual experiences that Atlantia’s (and other known world) extraordinary populace provides.

http://virtual.atlantia.sca.org/

Within Virtual Atlantia you will find three links on the left-hand side:

Home – takes you back to the Virtual Atlantia homepage

Activity Calendar – takes you to the actual virtual calendar

Request Activity – takes you to the form to request submission to the Virtual Activity Calendar

Fields marked with a red *asterisk* are required.

What we need from you, dearest Atlantia is to submit this information for yourself, for your friend or for the person who doesn’t know this opportunity exists. Please reach out, submit information and help us fill up this calendar, or social schedules and fulfill our need for knowledge.

We know there will be questions and suggestions. We will do our best to clarify and answer these questions as well as evaluate your suggestions. We are excited about the start of this program and hope you will be too. As we grow, this can and I certainly hope will develop into an even more robust program, for now, however it is time to let these seedling ideas grow.

Please look for another forthcoming post concerning questions, answers, and suggestions.

We are embarking on a most excellent adventure together. There will be times that we stumble and maybe even fall during the development of, the implementation of and the ongoing changes we make as a Kingdom to this new program.

Please cross-post as wanted.

All the best,

Adelhait

Special Project Manager

P.S. Melchior our fearless Web Minister wanted me to note:

1) Virtual Atlantia works best on a desktop browser for now: http://virtual.atlantia.sca.org/

2) Please be patient as we work out all the bugs!

From the Kingdom of Glenn Abhann….

To start off our challenges, we thought we would get you moving…10 minutes, 30 days in a row. This will allow for all fitness levels to participate.  Of course, if you are used to physical activity, you can do more. Challenge each other with daily exercises or take us with you on your walk, it doesn’t matter what you do.  Ultimately, this about doing something together and holding each other accountable.

Let us know what you are doing to stay active and physically fit by posting your progress below, on Instagram and/or Twitter using the hashtag: #GARoyalChallenge.

The calendar says this will end on 4/6/2020. Facebook won’t let us extend it for a full 30 days.  So keep going till April 21st!

From the Kingdom of Meridies….

Doing our bit to keep everyone safe but also bring some joy. #SCAatHome

Baron Mark de Wytteney went grocery shopping in armor today! “Honestly, it made so many people smile and laugh, and one little girl was so delighted she jumped up and down and then asked me, very seriously “have you ever heard of the Renaissance festival? It’s so fun!” It was nice to bring a little whimsy to those braving the public.”

From the Kingdom of the Middle…

The Royal University of the Midrealm has been offering several classes online throughout this period. We are offering one per evening and two per weekend day. It is a great way to learn about new subjects or participate in roundtables and stay connected with other SCA folks:

For everyone …

Can You Map the Known World?

Our Known World keeps on growing with Kingdoms being born of great endeavours and that means we need to undertake the time old activity of cartography, redrawing the borders of the Known World to reflect our newest Kingdom, Avacal.

Given that the Society has so many talented cartographers within our game who may be looking for a way to #SCAatHome, we thought a competition to draw the Known World was in order. The winner will receive a prize (details to be forthcoming) and honour and renown across all the Kingdoms of the SCA.

Details:

The Competition will run from 29 March 2020 to 28 April 2020.

The winner will be announced on 1 May 2020 as we’d like to start the A.S LV (55) off with a bang.

The artist will retain all rights to the map but allow use by the Society for Creative Anachronism (basically we’d like to borrow it on occasion). All usage will be credited.

File Specifications:

Samples, as well as completed maps, will be accepted.

Preferred format eps or ai.

1 layer per kingdom to allow for maximum usage.

Keep all typography to separate layers as well.

If your file is larger than 4mb please contact [email protected] to ensure it will be received through our servers.

The winner will be selected by the Board of Directors

Entries can be submitted to [email protected]
