Society for Creative Anachronism

This is an introduction to the SCA Canada Working Group, a Canadian-led initiative. Canada is a different legal jurisdiction from the US, and our group is investigating the SCA’s compliance with Federal and Provincial requirements.

To do this work, Canadian representatives from the six Kingdoms with branches in Canada have been identified by their Crowns and Kingdom Seneschals. Over the next year, we will be consulting Canadian lawyers and other experts to answer our guiding question: What is the best way for the SCA to operate in the Canadian jurisdiction? We are only looking at modern legal issues, not at the game side of the SCA for Canadian groups.

Once we have recommendations, a report will be given to the Kingdoms and the President of the SCA. Further steps will depend on the options open to us.

Right now, we are in fact-finding mode. We will provide updates as we have them. Stay tuned.

Voici une présentation du Groupe de Travail SCA Canada, une initiative canadienne. Le Canada constitue une juridiction légale distincte des États-Unis, et notre groupe examine la conformité de la SCA aux exigences légales fédérales et provinciales.

Pour réaliser ce travail, des représentants canadiens des six royaumes ayant des branches au Canada ont été identifiés par leurs couronnes et sénéchaux du royaume. Durant la prochaine année, des avocats canadiens et d’autres experts seront consultés pour assurer la conformité de la SCA aux lois canadiennes. Nous nous concentrons uniquement sur les questions juridiques modernes et non sur l’aspect ludique de la SCA au Canada.

Dès la réception des recommandations, un rapport sera transmis aux six Royaumes ainsi qu’au Président de la SCA. Les étapes subséquentes seront guidées par les options qui nous seront disponibles.
