The Board of Directors is pleased to appoint Megan Ladd (Baroness Margaret Lad) as Society Chatelaine. Ms Ladd commenced in the role on 31 July 2022.

Megan Ladd has been working as a certification program specialist at a non-profit association based in the Washington, DC area since 2012. Prior to this role, she was an education volunteer in rural Kazakhstan for the US Peace Corps. Megan holds a dual B.A. in English Literature and Russian Language from the University of Florida. She currently lives outside of Charlottesville, VA with her husband Anthony, stepson Mack, and their horde of cats. Outside of the SCA Megan and Anthony enjoy renovating their 100+ year old farmhouse, hiking, weightlifting, and traveling.

Baroness Margaret Lad is the daughter of William Lad of Berlynge and his wife Eleanor. Her father, along with her uncle John, fought as English longbowmen mercenaries in the Battle of Castagnaro as members of the White Company under the command of Sir John Hawkwood. Upon the death of her father in battle, Margaret’s uncle married her to Lord Cataldo Querini – another member of the White Company and minor Italian nobility. Now settled in Italy, Her Excellency enjoys the pleasures of Italian society – drinking fine wine, eating good cheeses, and socializing with her dear friends.

The Society Chatelaine is the officer responsible for supporting the training, advising, and coordinating of public outreach, newcomer introduction, acclimation and retention for the SCA. The appointment is for three years.
