The Board of Directors is pleased to appoint Michele Hays (Baroness Jeanne-Marie la Verriere, OL) as Society Chatelaine.

Michele Hays was born and raised in San Diego, CA.  She found the SCA while in high school, and was active in the Barony of Calafia.  Moving to Texas in 2005, she attended cosmetology college, earned her license, and became a full-time hairstylist until the Covid shutdown of 2020.  During this time, she went back to school, earned her certification in medical billing and coding, and changed careers (because you can’t cut hair on a Zoom call.) Now she runs the front office at Riata Physical Therapy in Trophy Club, TX, and still does a few haircuts on the side for friends and family.  She lives with her husband in Fort Worth, Texas.

Baroness Jeanne-Marie la Verriere, OL is a Burgundian noble lady living in the early 15th century.  She grew up in a wealthy family, as her father was a favored artisan in the Duke of Burgundy’s court.  Once she came of age, she traveled abroad, first to the Kingdom of Caid, and then eventually to the Kingdom of Ansteorra, where she fell in love with and married a handsome knight.  She and her husband live in the Barony of Elfsea, where she enjoys sewing clothes, making jewelry, and being as fabulous as possible.

The Society Chatelaine is the officer responsible for supporting the training, advising, and coordinating of public outreach, newcomer introduction, acclimation and retention for the SCA. The appointment is for three years. You can reach her at [email protected]
