The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of Dale Fong-Frederick (Sir Jibril al-Dakhil) as Director-Elect to Seat D.  He will assume this position from John St. Dennis (Baron Lorcan Dracontius) at the close of the April 2021 quarterly meeting.

Dale Fong-Frederick is a Court Attorney-Referee in the New York State Surrogate’s Court.  Previously, he worked as a Court Attorney in Supreme Court, a private practitioner, a public defender, and as the Supervising Attorney of the Criminal Justice Clinic at Hofstra University Law School. He has volunteered as an Arbitrator in the New York City Civil Court for fifteen years and for a county’s attorney-client fee dispute program. He is the current Vice President of the New York Surrogate’s Court Law Association and a member of the Board of Directors of the Caribbean American Lawyer’s Association. He remains active in other county and affinity group bar associations. He is proudly an immigrant from Trinidad & Tobago, a father to a brilliant daughter, and married to an amazing man. Within the East Kingdom, he is the first openly gay knight and one of less than a dozen African-American knights.

Sir Jibril al-Dakhil is the son of a Moorish baron and a mother born of Spanish royalty, living in Spain near the end of the Moorish occupation. Leaving behind his wealth, he found his way to Germany where he squired to a knight of The Order of St. Adrian.  After years of service to the Order and his knight, Jibril returned to Spain as a knight, took his place as a baron, and he used his wealth and renown to champion the populace of his barony. It is rumored that he is known to competitively dance the pole in disguise.

The SCA’s Board of Directors sets policy and maintains the unified rules that provide the framework for all of the SCA’s activities, both modern and game-side, and acts as the final arbiter when rule interpretation is required.  Members of the Board make a three-and-a-half (3 1/2) years commitment when agreeing to serve.

As new Directors are seated each April and October, candidates for the Board are continually being solicited.  Individuals may be nominated by SCA members and participants or can be self-nominated.  No special experience is required, and candidates do not need to have specialized modern degrees.  They also need not be peers – people from all walks of life are desired.  To make a nomination, (or to nominate yourself), please forward a Modern Name, SCA Name, and email address to [email protected].
