SCA Inc. is seeking applications for the position of Deputy Society Seneschal for Investigations. This is a part-time stipend position expected to require approximately 15 hours a week on average. This position reports to the Society Seneschal/VP for Operations and is a warranted deputy working under that officer.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in recruiting volunteer investigators
- Train and oversee investigators, including producing training materials in conjunction with the Society Seneschal
- Maintain a record of volunteer investigators and their assignments
- Assign investigations in consultation with the Society Seneschal
- Maintain regular contact with volunteer investigators and get regular updates on investigations in progress
- Communicate with relevant kingdom officers, complainants, subjects of investigations, and major identified witnesses to inform them of the assignment of an investigation and introduce the volunteer investigator
- Maintain investigation files and send information to assigned volunteer investigators as required
- Provide advice, guidance, and instructions to volunteer investigators as needed
- Assemble finished investigation reports and files into documents for Society Seneschal and Board review
- Summarize investigation files and recommend Board actions as appropriate
- Make recommendations and assist Society Seneschal with revisions to investigation procedures, the SCA Sanctions Policies and Procedures Manual, and other relevant documents as needed
- Serve as a consultation resource for kingdom seneschals regarding kingdom investigations and sanctions
Qualifications:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Familiarity with SCA governing documents, policies regarding investigations and sanctions, and relevant handbooks and procedures manuals
- Prior experience in leadership positions within the SCA or in leading volunteer organizations
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of investigations and the related materials
- Previous experience in investigative processes within the SCA or in similar modern professions such as Human Resources, Law Enforcement, Legal, etc.
- Ability to organize and evaluate large amounts of information
- Ability to maintain a neutral perspective while evaluating statements and evidence
- Ability to pass Background Check
This position will require the ability to communicate with volunteer investigators via email, phone, or videoconference, prepare detailed reports for the Board of Directors, and communicate with participants in the SCA community without regard to rank or position. Attendance via videoconference at portions of SCA Inc. Board meetings may be required. These meetings may be held on evenings or weekends, several times per year. A computer, phone, and access to internet is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Pro is a plus. While overall the position is estimated to require approximately 15 hours per week, the workload may vary between 10-20 hours per week.
