As one chapter ends, another begins. For years, John Fulton has guided the SCA through unprecedented situations, earning a well-deserved rest after giving so much of himself to this organization that he loves—and that we all love. Much of John’s time was spent bringing calm in turbulent times, and some may wonder what comes next for the SCA.
The beginning of my tenure coincides with Pride Month. I want to reaffirm the SCA’s commitment to building a Society for all, not just for the few. We have taken steps towards creating a safer, more accepting environment, and it is my intent to guide the organization toward a brighter, more diverse, and more tolerant future.
The future of the SCA is my focus. In our game, we recreate the past, but as a corporate entity, we need to modernize. To grow our membership, we need consistency and stability. The Society and Corporate entity must be better positioned to support and nurture the growth of groups, giving them the greatest chance to succeed. As a volunteer-run organization, we must recognize that people have lives outside of the SCA and adjust processes to ensure business continues in a timely manner.
My initial agenda for the SCA can be summarized in three parts:
- Optimize, streamline, and improve processes to reduce individual volunteer workload and yield more consistent results.
- Promote policies and plans that support membership growth and sustainability.
- Increase access to and transparency of this office.
The SCA is my home, as it is for many others, and I want to take care of it. I look forward to working with the Society Officers and at the direction of the Board to help foster growth and prosperity in the SCA.
