I would like to say thank you to the Board of Directors of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. for the honor and opportunity to serve as President of the organization. I was asked in 2016 to become President and in late 2019 was offered a position as an employee of the SCA. My start month was March 2020 and my original intent was to stay in the job for two years. However, March 2020 brought on the closing of SCA events and other challenges for the next several years.
Bao Pham is the new President, and he is very well qualified and ready to take the job to the next level.
There are many people I owe thanks to for helping teach, correct, lead, and be an example to me over the years. Here are some of their names and the actual list is so much longer than what I can put here. A partial list perhaps, but I will spend the rest of my time in the Society thanking everyone I see, when possible, for making me a better officer and person.
Renee Signorotti and Theresa Anderson. Thank you for being the professional foundation of the SCA for so many years, and a hearty thanks to their hubbies Dave and Bob. Louise Du Cray and Nataalya Urosevic, thank you both for taking up the reins and responsibilities of the office.
Thanks also (in no order and there are many not named here) to Lis Schraer, Stacy Hall, Rusty Lloyd, Patrick Anderson, Laura Pate, Jessica Van Hattem, Charles Burke, Brigid Costello, Ross Thompson, Katie Gilroy, Eben Kurtzman, Marla Lecin, Gloria Woodard, Ellen Rawson, Dar’C O’Neal, CT Alderson, Erin Anderson, A.J. Pongratz, Carolyn Richardson, Craig Carter, Hal Simon, Mazelle Attiya, Katherine Brega Palmer, Paul Lancaster, Kelly Magill, Dr. Melissa Midzor, Ray DuBose, John St. Dennis, Bonnie Stringer, Richard Sherman, Denise Hundley, Donna and Bill Hopper.
Thank you to those who are currently serving and have served on the Board of Directors of the Society for Creative Anachronism. Balancing the love and participation in the SCA with the responsibilities of managing the many business and modern requirements of a 501(c)(3) organization is a challenging task. Your work is deeply appreciated.
Additionally, I wish to thank all the members of the SCA for their responsible communication with the Board. Your advice, suggestions, and information are invaluable and greatly appreciated.
To all officers, individuals, and volunteers who take the time to do the jobs which can include helping others, staying up late working troll, cook, clean, bookkeep, sweep, tote, drive, put up, take down, teach, and the endless things that are the true heart of the SCA. Thanks everyone.
I showed up at my first event an exceptionally long time ago and was made welcome. Many people since then have been patient and willing to put up with someone who so desperately needed teaching and guidance.
Finally, thank you to my wife Leslie Luther-Fulton. Anyone who has known me for a long time also recognizes that I owe my happiness and sense of responsibility to LLF. She saved me.
Now? Now, I am a “civilian” and can return to doing what I used to do; write, work and help at events, bother and annoy my local group, spend more time with friends and family, and stay retired. Fingers crossed.
