The Society Marshal is pleased to appoint Dame Gesa Wellenstein (THL Gesa van Wellenstein) as the new Deputy Society Marshal for Equestrian Activities. SCA equestrian activities include mounted combat, jousting with opponents using foam or wooden lances, and skill at arms games such as jousting at rings, hitting the quintain, obstacle courses, and archery from horseback.
Dame Gesa Wellenstein is a child psychologist in the greater Pittsburgh, PA, area. She runs a non-profit organization for traumatized children and teaches psychology at a local college. In her free time, she volunteers to counsel veterans with PTSD and domestic violence. Dame Gesa is a member of the Royal Order of the True Cross and the Royal Order of Constantine the Great & St. Helen, prestigious organizations that recognize her humanitarian work with children.
THL Gesa van Wellenstein, a late-period jouster, is a woman of unwavering passion. Her love for horses is a hobby and a way of life. She envisions a Society where friends engage in friendly battles with swords, spears, or lances, all on horseback. Her belief in supporting each other and building a welcoming cavalry is a testament to her dedication. Lady Gesa is an accomplished mounted warrior, a skilled horse trainer, and a passionate teacher, all fueled by her love for equestrian sports.
