The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is seeking a applications for the next Laurel Sovereign of Arms.
Laurel is the chief heraldic officer of the Society and the head of the College of Arms, and is responsible for fostering the study and practice of heraldry, supervising the processing of submissions, and overseeing the heraldic activities of the Known World.
Key Responsibilities:
These are listed in Section IX of the Administrative Handbook of the College of Arms. In short,
- Fostering the study and practice of heraldry across the Society
- Supervision of the Principal Heralds of each kingdom and the Laurel staff deputies
- Overseeing the registration and recording of names and armory
- Reporting to the Board of Directors on the state of heraldic services in the Society
Qualifications:
- Clear understanding of the functions of the College of Arms
- Understanding of armory and onomastics, especially in SCA context
- Supervisory skills
- Ability to work within tight deadlines and coordinate closely with Wreath, Pelican, and other staff
- Considerable tact and patience
- Computer literacy and reliable net access
Estimated Work Hours and Travel:
20 hours a week
