The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of Joan Steurer (Gerefa Rhianwen ferch Bran ap Gruffydd, KSCA, OL, OP) as the Director-Elect for Seat D. She will assume the position from Director Gabrielle Fisher at the close of the October 2024 quarterly meeting.
Joan Steurer is a Senior Technical Consultant with a major software company specializing in geospatial technologies. She assists clients of all sizes, both domestic and international, with spatially enabling their workflows. She works across a broad variety of sectors, including natural resources, land records, and disaster response. Joan lives in the Midwest with her partner and their new puppy. She enjoys travel for both work and leisure, and she considers the SCA to be her chosen family.
Gerefa Rhianwen ferch Bran ap Gruffydd, KSCA, OL, OP, is a 9th Century Saxon huscarl who has had the honor of leading the Crown’s armies on four fields of battle and on a castle in Wēalas. She is a maker of tents and enjoys lending a hand wherever she can. Rhianwen also revels in singing with shoulder-companions around a fire and creating fun for others.

As new Directors are seated each April and October, candidates for the Board are continually being solicited. SCA Inc or affiliate individuals may be nominated by SCA members and participants or can be self-nominated. No special experience is required, and candidates do not need to have specialized modern degrees. They also need not be peers – experience from every aspect of the Society is desired.
