The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Noble McGee (Magnifica Hildegard Bergerin, OL) as Society Minister of Arts and Sciences for the Society for Creative Anachronism.

Sarah Noble McGee is a biologist and botanist who has held various positions including several years as an Assistant Professor, and some wonderful time as a Field Botanist. Her primary botanical passion is bryophytes, especially those of the southern Appalachian Mountains and the Alaskan tundra. One of her longest running commitments is as an expert moss and wildflower walk leader for the Great Smoky Mountains Annual Wildflower Pilgrimage, which she had done every spring since 1999. She very much enjoys nature, hiking, travel, and amateur astronomy. Sarah currently lives in a peaceful home amid the songbirds, ferns, and flowers with her sweet and wonderfully supportive husband and the four Constellation Kitties, in a small North Carolina woodland.

Living in the foothills of the western Alps, Hildegard enjoys a happy life, including visiting friends in other kingdoms, and spending a brief, but very lovely time in a neighboring convent. She survived the Plague and continues to enjoy both quiet contemplation in her Opus Anglicanum style needlework, and the loud rush of a friendly War. Some say embroidery is her primary passion, especially when it involves tiny stitches in bright silk and shiny gold threads. Hildegard also enjoys brewing, walks in the mountains, star gazing, accompanying her husband and friends on campaign, and teaching her arts so the beauty may be perpetuated and the stories remembered. In all her travels through life the one constant remains Hildegard’s delight and fascination in the movements of the night sky.

The Society Minister of Arts and Sciences is primarily responsible for fostering the study of pre-17th century cultures and technologies and, of methods for producing historically accurate artifacts and performances. Ministers have a passion for pursuing research and re-creation of pre-seventeenth century skills, arts, and cultures and helping others to connect and learn to do the same. Appointments are for a term of three years.
