A Note on Spelling

The names on these tables are normalized and given in common transliteration. Because Greek letters do not precisely correspond to Latin letters, and because many names are often Latinized (Andronikos to Andronicus, for example), many different spellings are commonly found in secondary sources. It is also quite common for a name to have a wide variety of spellings in primary sources. The renderings on this list should in no way be considered definitive, and where there is more than one common rendering of a name, both are given together.
